How We Tested

The pet beds were sent directly from PeachSkinSheets in their original packaging, with distribution coordinated by Best of the Year. Seven pet parents received beds in their requested size and choice of black or white. Four cat parents received small or medium beds with fish pillows, while three dog parents received medium, large or extra-large beds with bone pillows. Testing took place during July and August, and most testers had three to four weeks or longer to use the beds before completing their scorecards.

Testers incorporated the beds into their pets’ regular routines and compared them with the products they normally used. They rated overall quality and performance, ease of use and likelihood to recommend to friends and family. They also shared what they and their pets liked, what they would change, how the beds compared with their usual options, and any problems or safety concerns they encountered.

What Experts and Consumer Testers Said

Let's start with the most important reviewers: the animals. Our four-legged testers climbed into the Faux Fur Pet Bed and made themselves at home. One “extremely picky” cat took to it immediately, even though his previous bed had failed to win him over. Another groomed himself in it, rested his head on the raised edge, curled up against the side, and fully stretched out when the mood struck. Basically, he moved in.

Their humans found plenty to love too, from the incredibly soft faux fur and good-looking design to the waterproof liner, removable washable cover, and skid-resistant base. And they were especially happy to see their pets choosing the bed on their own.

One tester said it was “such an improvement” over the other pet bed in her home that “there's really no comparison.” She loved the design, fabric, lower entry point, removable cushion, lightweight construction, range of sizes, and two neutral color options.

And then there was the tester who apparently forgot this was supposed to be a bed for his dog: “This is honestly the best pet (and human) bed I've ever come across. It's so comfortable I've taken over ownership from my pup, Soke, and using it for myself...almost like a beanbag chair. He's mad, but I love this bed, lol!” says our tester. Sorry, Soke.

Our judges were fans of the details you don't necessarily notice at first glance. The waterproof liner helps protect the cushion from accidents, the cover comes off for washing and the skid-resistant base helps keep the bed where you put it. One judge also called out the lack of visible zippers and exposed edges — exactly the places chewers tend to find first.

The bed scored points for style too. Testers described it as luxurious, beautiful and easy to work into a room rather than something that immediately announces itself as pet gear. One went so far as to say it was “a cosy little bed your small kid would be happy to play in.”

A few things to know: The bed ships compressed, so give it a little time to reach its full shape, depending on the size. One judge noticed a slight odor immediately after opening the plastic packaging, although she said it disappeared quickly; another tester specifically reported no odor at all. Our judges also thought the packaging could use some love. For a bed that feels this luxe, the shrink-wrap presentation felt pretty basic.

One last caveat: This was still a presale product when we tested it, so long-term durability is the one thing we can't tell you about yet. The construction made a strong initial impression, including with a tester who had used the bed for more than a month. But years of sleeping, scratching, washing and whatever else your particular fur baby gets up to? We'll report back on that.
