There are plenty of good reasons to vacation on Mexico’s Caribbean coast: inviting turquoise water, beautiful sand beaches, year-round sunny weather and an incredible assortment of resorts for almost every type of traveler. And if you're seeking something that checks all the boxes on wellness travel, look no further than this 2026 Best of the Year Award winner, Palmaïa – The House of AïA.

It's about a one-hour drive from Cancun International Airport (CUN), and the resort can arrange round-trip transportation if you pre-arrange it. Once you arrive at the resort, get ready for total wellness immersion. Yoga for all levels, inspiring breathwork, and targeted strength training. Join a women’s circle. Make art. Sign up for a sound bath or find your calm during a guided meditation. Explore traditional healing practices. Dance barefoot on the beach. You get the idea.

All in all, they offer more than 50 holistic activities each week, and you can try whatever intrigues you without building your vacation around a prescribed retreat schedule. Our testers dove in on all of it — and came away raving about both the experiences and the people leading them, calling Palmaïa “a really special place, genuinely award-winning.”

Standout Features: Why It Won

  • A total head-to-toe, inside-and-out, wellbeing-first approach. A wide variety of activities are offered each week, spanning movement, meditation, sound, art, and traditional wellness practices — and the vast majority is included in the all-inclusive rate. (Rule of thumb: one-on-one sessions and spa services are extra.)

  • Best of the best practitioners. The resort brings together a rotating roster of top talent that includes well-known yoga teachers, guides, seekers, and healers.

  • Delicious plant-forward dining. More than 90% of its menu is made from scratch with real ingredients, with an emphasis on fermented foods, sourdough breads, and seasonal fruits and vegetables sourced largely from organic and regenerative farms. The menu also avoids refined sugars wherever possible.

  • Dietary restrictions don't mean compromise. One of our testers follows a dairy- and gluten-free diet, and also avoids shellfish and pork. She happily reported the resort accommodated her “easily, readily, and deliciously.”

  • Relaxed, effortless luxury with all-inclusive appeal. Think spacious, oceanfront accommodations, gourmet dining, 24-hour room service, and an upscale beach club.

"A one-of-a-kind, genuinely transformative wellness experience delivered by exceptionally skilled practitioners, with plant-forward cuisine that accommodates complex dietary needs beautifully. It meets every guest where they are and sends them home changed." -Best of the Year Consumer Tester

How We Tested

Palmaïa - The House of AïA was evaluated as part of an anniversary trip taken by a well-traveled couple in the Best of the Year tester community in late July. They were seeking a relaxing getaway that was relatively close to home and within the same time zone, allowing them to make the most of the trip without contending with jet lag afterward.

During their stay, the testers experienced the resort’s accommodations, all-inclusive dining, amenities, wellness offerings, activities and programming. After returning, they independently completed detailed scorecards assessing their overall experiences. They also shared what stood out, what could be improved and whether they would recommend the resort. Best of the Year analysts reviewed their evaluations to arrive at the final assessment.

At Palmaïa – The House of AïA, you'll enjoy tastefully decorated rooms with a coastal design vibe and ocean views.

What Experts and Consumer Testers Said

The strongest praise was for the practitioners and the programming, described as skilled, attentive, and genuinely restorative rather than performative, and for a plant-forward kitchen that impressed even without meat on the plate. Our reviewer, who follows a restricted diet, singled out how completely she was accommodated, "never missed it, never felt bloated," and how much care went into it. The range of the experience stood out too: movement classes, sound and meditation sessions, art, ocean plunges, a natural cenote, and quiet time all coexisting in one stay. Our judge made it her mission to try as much as she could, and some of her favorite experiences were things she’d never done before. Club bells gave her what she described as real back activation, lengthening and definition. A women’s circle built around a mirroring exercise created an unexpected sense of empathy and connection. And a sound meditation was so powerful she told us it “genuinely felt like tripping.”

The honest note is about the boundary of "all-inclusive." The single rate covers a great deal, but not everything: spa treatments and use of the spa's steam room and sauna, one-on-one sessions with practitioners, some premium dining, and room upgrades are extra. Our reviewer flagged this as the one thing she hadn't fully priced out, and it's the most common surprise guests mention, so it's worth planning for before you book.

"Wholeheartedly recommend, especially for anyone seeking renewal or deeper integration, and for guests with dietary restrictions who want to eat well and feel genuinely cared for." -Best of the Year Judge & Travel Category Expert

But what testers kept returning to were the people leading it all. She described them as “extraordinary, deeply skilled” and praised their ability to understand the body and guide guests without pushing them beyond their capacity. "It's a one-of-a-kind, transformative place," says one consumer tester.

The food was another point of excellence. Our judge is dairy-free and gluten-sensitive and also avoids shellfish and pork, yet said her dietary needs were accommodated “easily, readily, and deliciously.” She didn't eat eggs or meat once during her stay, never missed them and told us she never felt bloated.

One thing to know before booking: while Palmaïa includes an unusually broad range of group wellness programming in its all-inclusive rate, not everything is covered. Spa treatments and facilities, one-on-one sessions, private or premium dining, room upgrades and some other experiences cost extra.

Palmaïa – The House of AïA gives you everything you want in a Riviera Maya vacation — beautiful beaches, all-inclusive ease, great food — and then layers on something much more specific: more than 50 wellness experiences, exceptional practitioners and seriously healthy, plant-forward dining. Set between jungle and sea, it’s a beautiful place to try something completely new. Just remember that the spa, one-on-one sessions and some premium extras cost more, so price out the version of the trip you want before you book and check seasonal seaweed conditions for your dates.
