KinderFarms Daily Hydration Electrolyte Powder Drink Mix for Kids in Fruit Punch flavor was sent to 15 judges and consumer testers, including experts in nutrition, consumer products, personal care, packaging and sustainability, as well as consumer testers. KinderFarms shipped the samples directly to participants, as coordinated by Best of the Year.

Participants prepared the drink mix according to the package directions and evaluated how easily it mixed, its taste and texture, the convenience of the individual servings, and its overall appeal for children. They recorded their observations in scorecards, including whether they would use or recommend the product.

Expert judges also considered the ingredient list, nutrition information, hydration claims, packaging and value. Best of the Year analysts reviewed those assessments alongside their own testing observations, the product’s entry materials and supporting information, including purity analysis, before reaching a decision.

What Experts and Consumer Testers Said

Kids' hydration used to force a choice: reach for something built for sick days, or hand over a sports drink loaded with artificial dyes and sugar. KinderFarms offers another option: an everyday hydration drink based on the same oral-rehydration approach clinicians use, with electrolytes (the minerals like sodium and potassium that help the body take in and hold onto water) and zinc, but without artificial dyes, flavors or sweeteners. It also has about 75% less sugar than a typical sports drink, per the brand, with around five grams of sugar per serving and stevia for additional sweetness.

That combination resonated with our experts. The format is simple and practical. Single-serve stick packs can be tossed in a backpack, gym bag or carry-on and mixed with water when needed—no bottles to lug or portions to measure. Most of our tester families reported that their kids happily drank it, too. Comments on taste weren't universal, though, and that's worth knowing before stocking up. One family found the flavor a little sour, and another tester had a much stronger reaction: “It was very salty tasting and looking at the ingredients was high in sodium... Couldn't really finish an entire packet because it was too salty.” One of our physician judges also found that kids accustomed to sweeter drinks were more skeptical of the less-sweet flavor. The powder itself could take some effort to dissolve completely, with one judge describing a “chalky” taste and saying it needed a good shake.
